KITTY KAT LAYOUTS

Like most Americans, I am a total sucker for nifty art direction. Whether it be in ads, magazine editorials, packaging, books, you name it and the graphics will have you caught. That whole ...don't judge a book by a cover crap, well its all crap. Its really has a HUGE part of what we buy into. Lets face it, we get tricked all of the time. Legends of this field like my favorite art director, Fabien Baron,  gets paid major bucks to play around on layouts, treatment and the all important fonts of the day. Helvetica, Times New Roman, Courier, Old-English, are all household names. We all have some version of photoshop, illustrator, and quark...I got mine from LimeWire! And yes they are all sooo complicated. But never fear, one can always play and wait for "Happy Accidents" to occur! You're cutting edge now! Fabien is GAGGING! Well....
But for most kids out there, with almost no sense of artistic flair or even a GED, playing around on the computer has replaced the games of the streets. In the last decade, the children(s) are all about catchy (and caught) flyers, invites, myspace pages, personal campaigns and other sorts of printed propaganda. And as these kitty-kat layouts illustrate, one's happy accident is another legend art director's inspiration.

THIS IS ENGLAND!

If you have not seen this BRILLIANT movie that was out earlier this year, then DO rent it. Inspired from Gavin Watson's photographs that seem to come to life.  A total gem...

GAVIN WATSON

Just saw this book on a lunch break at Barnes & Noble. It is an absolute MUST-HAVE. The photography is beyond legend by photographer Gavin Watson who documents his own family and friends in Wycombe, middle England in the '70s and '80s. A major influence to many of the top fashion photographers and stylists working today, Watson' s images are nothing short of nostalgic, poetic and all around charming. Learn more about him and his work in the video above. I love it all too much and really will be getting this book soon. Out now from PowerHouse Books $40.00

AT PATRIK RZEPSKI

Patrik's show was cool as ever...nice, light and breezy numbers...the girls were long and skinny as usual...all clones from the same planet....It was really humid in this ground floor of this building...everybody was sweating...I sat next to Zamaris who reps Shayne's Hood By Air line at OAK showroom in Soho. She said Harvey Nichols in London was picking up the Hood line...great to hear! I brought along Katie, this new girl that works with me at ABC...The big highlight was to see Kelly Osborne and her new boy toy model Luke Worrall. Luke recently switched from a blonde to a brunette, as well as jumping agencies...from Public Image Worldwide to VNY. Both looked DARLING and FRESH. Later on met up with Shayne and photographer  Kevin Amato. These two plus myself were all too much! It was a lot of fun just parle-ing on the streets...Kevin is funny and I have always liked his pictures...also met up with stylist, Jason Farrer (JJ) as he is working the Hood show. To end off the night, we ran into downtown rapper Cazwell....only in the NYC folks!
